To renovate your place

Remember how to find your place? Well, to find it is just the beginning and I’m not kidding… After we saw (our-to-be) apartment and we have agreed that this is the place we were looking for, we went through dozens of administrative-law-bank troubles. So, in brief, at the beginning of May last year, we bought our first (hope not least) brand new apartment. Right after that, we went on a vacation to Amsterdam. Really good timing, yeah! But our trip was planned a long time ago before we even knew we’re going to find our place, so no matter what, we enjoyed a really good time there. Amsterdam is great place, honestly, I would love to go there again. But I will tell you that story later. Getting back in Sofia reality hit us hard. We were supposed to organize everything without knowing anything. Together with that, it was also necessary to figure it out what exactly we wanted. And you know what? It is actually harder to define that than to find the right people to do it. Or maybe this was the hardest thing for us, cause rest of the people knows exactly what they want. We didn’t 🙂 (do I mention that I’m trying to be adult, but I’m not really good at it? Well, true story…) So, here is the beginners’ list for all brand-new-apartment-owners that are going to redo their places: Take your time and decide precisely what exactly you would like to achieve. I’m serious. Spend at least couple of days Read More

Zucchini souffle

My office was in one of the most popular and nicest places in Sofia –  Iztok district. Iztok means East in English, and the name have not been chosen just like that – Iztok is great, shiny place to work, live and have fun. There is also one more thing for Iztok – it is one of the most expensive districts in Sofia. Working there is great cause of the location (great public transport), numerous of green areas (parks and gardens) and last, but not least – there are a lot of food corners, restaurants, cafes and shops. You can work and meanwhile complete a lot of your daily to-dos in your lunch break (like shop, pay bills, use carrier, go to hairdresser or have a cup of coffee with friends). One of the things you can not do is to save money. But you can actually gather a lot of good ideas how to find (or prepare) something cheap 🙂  I had zucchini souffle in one of my lunch breaks couple of weeks ago, so I thought it is a good idea for a healthy dinner. Souffle sounds bit fancy and tricky, but it is actually something easy – if I’m capable to do it – everyone is 🙂 What you need: zucchini (~ 500-600 grams /  2 or 3 zucchini) – up 2 to 3 BGN per kilo cheese (~200-300 grams) –  7 to 10 (or more) BGN per kilo yellow cheese  (~ 150-200 grams) – 10 to 15 (or more) BGN per kilo 3 eggs Read More

Sausages in a ceramic pot

Well, do you remember my Lovely dinner with eggplants? As I mentioned there, I have bought those blue pans on Christmas’ sale in Duka. On the very same sale, I bought two pots. They were not as cheap as I would like them to were, but I literally fell in love. I went out of the shop and to the car into the parking thinking I should go home but… yep, I got back and bought them. I’m a woman, what more should I do when I really like something that much?  Of course, as for the pans, 3 months later I finally found myself wondering what to do with the pots. I remembered how my mother was doing sausages in ceramic pots when I was younger and I thought – why not? Of course, I edited her receipt in order to make it bit healthier. What do you need in order to cook sausages in a ceramic pot (for 2)? 2 pots 🙂 sausages (I prefer to buy such that are having Bulgarian food tradition standard mark) – approximately 4 BGN for 2 sausages cheese (~ 300-400 grams) – 7 to 10 (or more) BGN per kilo 2 eggs – 2 to 4 BGN for 6 to 12 eggs pack tomato chutney (Bulgarian luitenitsa) (~300 grams) – up to 5-6 BGN for a jar (or if you’re lucky like me, you’ll have it from your grandma 🙂 ) Step 1: Baking the sausage: Take the sausages out of the package and cut them slightly only on the Read More

Lovely dinner with eggplants

There are a lot of things that I really love doing whole weekend – being home, being close to Daniel, being close to my adopted fish (yep, I have adopted a fish last year). I love sitting on the couch early in the morning, watching through the window of our brand new, scandi furnished apartment, and relaxing. I love reading or just standing there, making plans for the rest of the day or the upcoming week. Most of the time it’s quiet and calm and I can almost feel the serenity in the air. Real peace, real home, real love – piece of heaven. It took us a lot to find, redo and furnish our home, but still there are a lot more to be done. So, I’m using this almost-furnished kitchen cause I’m … well, supposed to, I guess? Why did we buy all of this kitchen stuffs otherwise? And while cooking during work week is almost killing me, cooking in the weekends is actually nice. Most of the time, I’m cooking something for dinner, as 90% of the time we’re having a coffee and lunch at the same time somewhere out. Especially when the weather is good and we’re not risking our lives (like freezing, drawing or burning) we do prefer to be out of the apartment, walking, gathering moments, so on… After that, we do prefer to stay home not doing anything 🙂 And then – I’m ok with the cooking thing.  So, 3 or 4 weeks ago, I have finally used Read More

Healthy breakfast #2 – oatmeal pancakes

It was a nice Sunday morning when I have decided to do those oatmeal pancakes that I saw on Facebook last week. The whole recipe was like video tutorial uploaded by Tasty. If you don’t know what Tasty is… well, better check it right away 🙂 So, speaking of the video, Tasty’s pancakes were really good-looking, easy to prepare and moreover – healthy. If I have to be honest, I was thinking that these pancakes are actually tasty as the regular ones (that is why I initially decided to do them). Hell no! They almost look like real pancakes, and even smell like them, but trust me – they do not taste like real ones. Not even close. Sorry. BUT! Daniel is claiming that they are good (with a lot of chocolate 🙂 ). You can, of course, keep them healthy (like me) like just eating them with honey, or fruits. Or both. Together with something to support their initial taste, these are actually eatable and you can even close your eyes and pretend to like them. What do you need? fine oat flakes (~200 grams) – 2 to 3 BGN for a kilo package 3 bananas – up to 2 BGN per kilo 3 eggs – 2 to 4 BGN for 6 to 12 eggs pack olive oil (1 tablespoon) – 15 to 20 BGN per kilo baking powder (a teaspoon) – up to 1 BGN for a package (~20 teaspoons) vanilla – no more than 0.20 to 0.50 BGN per dose What to do?
