It took me one year to finally reach our 2017 trips. Well, it took me this time mostly because I’m bit lazy and I’m always able to find reason why I’m not doing something instead of actually doing it… but however, let’s go back to Denmark.
It was almost Christmas (back in 2016) when I have decided to book a trip to somewhere as a gift for Daniel (I already told you – I’m the best girlfriend ever). I was checking the North and was wondering if we should go to Sweden, Denmark or Norway. It turns out that there is huge aquarium in Copenhagen (National Aquarium Denmark – Den Bla Planet). It was pretty easy to decide where to go after knowing that 🙂Â
We took early afternoon 3+ hours flight to Copenhagen and landed there thinking we’re most probably going to die from cold as late spring temperatures in whole Scandinavia are up to 13-15 degrees Celsius. Well, not at all. It was like 25 degrees and sun was shining all over that astonishing country. We caught the metro from the airport to the apartment we rented for couple of Danish crones (public transport in Copenhagen is great!). I have used airbnb once again to book a flat, and once again I didn’t have any troubles with the place and the organization. Having in mind that hotel prices in Copenhagen are absolutely insane, our deal in airbnb was closest to what I can accept as ‘normal’.
Let me tell you something about Copenhagen – I love that city! This place is absolutely, totally and without a doubt the best place I have ever been in my life. Together with London and Amsterdam, Copenhagen fills my Top 3 cities wish list. There are so many things to see there plus the region nearby, so many great spots and so many mesmerizing locations… oh, men, I can definitely get used to that city any time! There are parks, castles, museums, aquarium… great architecture, good food, nice people and good public transport to reach all of those. During our week there, weather was perfect, and even bit warmer for my taste – the last day we spent walking through the parks and I got sunburn! Meanwhile weather in Bulgaria was totally different – rainy, misty and really, really cold.Â
Like the last couple of trips we made, I was already prepared what and when we are going to see during our stay there. I have planned one whole day for walks through the parks and the city, one day to travel to nearest castles, one day for hot spots and additional one for the Aquarium and region nearby.
Short list of the things you should definitely check there:
- Nyhavn
- Christiansborg Palace
- Amalienborg Palace
- Strøget (the biggest pedestrian shopping center)
- Rådhuspladsen and Rådhus (the town hall and sqware)
- Københavns Fondsbørs (the old stock market)
- Rosenborg Slot and gardens
- Den Lille Havfrue (Little Mermaid)Â
- Frederiksberg Castle and gardens
One of things I mentioned above was our trip outside Copenhagen to see 2 of tho most spectacular castles I have ever seen, and those should be a must in your list:
- Frederiksborg Palace (in Hillerød)
- Kronborg Castle (in Helsingør)
Food in Copenhagen was nice, there are a lot of seafood dishes of course, numerous of pastries, cafes and restaurants all around the city. The only problem you’ll face is the price. It’s expensive as hell. Eating and drinking outside would probably cost all your money. By the way, everything is expensive – it is just the way it is in Denmark. Mesmerizing and expensive. Perfect for my taste 🙂Â
Some notes from me:
- always use the public transport and get yourself a 3- / 5- / however days cardÂ
- get lost into the parks, take food and drinks and spend time for at least an afternoon/early evening walk there
- go to Nyhavn in the evening – it is spectacular, but be prepared – there are a lot of drunk tourists (and locals) there
- visit the castles nearby and enjoy at least half there walking through the parks and little villagesÂ
- take warm clothes and umbrellas with you + something for a cold just in case.
Enjoy!
